How do I suspend my camper?
If you plan not to use your RV for an extended period of time, you can suspend the vehicle. Suspension means that you temporarily suspend the camper's registration number and the camper is not allowed on public roads. During the suspension you do not have to fulfill the vehicle obligations, such as the insurance obligation, MOT obligation and motor vehicle tax. The motor vehicle tax stops automatically after the suspension. You do have to cancel the motorhome insurance yourself!

Why suspend an RV?
There are several reasons to temporarily suspend an RV. Perhaps you are going abroad for a while, without a motorhome, so it will be stationary for an extended period of time. Or perhaps you are physically unable to use the motorhome at this time, but would like to do so again in the future. Whatever your reason, if you are not going to use the motorhome for a while, it makes sense to suspend the motorhome. After all, no one wants to incur unnecessary expenses. By suspending the camper you will save costs, because for example the insurance obligation and the motor vehicle tax will expire.
You can suspend your motorhome for 1,2 or 3 years. The suspension then takes effect immediately. Therefore, you cannot suspend your RV for a date in the future. Once the suspension period expires, you must immediately resume compliance with vehicle obligations. Of course, you can also choose to extend the suspension if you still have no intention of using the motorhome.
Motorhome suspension RDW
You can suspend your motorhome on the RDW website. You can follow the following steps to suspend your motorhome online:
- Go to "Request suspension or renewal" and log in with your DigiD. You will then enter the RDW service
- Select the registration number of the vehicle you want to suspend
- Choose how long you want to suspend the vehicle: 1,2 or 3 years
- Pay the fee via iDEAL
You will then receive a confirmation e-mail. The camper's registration number is not suspended until you receive a second e-mail from the RDW. This also contains the end date of the suspension. Keep this e-mail well, this is your proof of suspension.
