All about your sloop insurance
A sloop is perfect for long summer cruises. Boating with friends or family on Holland's most beautiful lakes and ponds. Such a nice boat should of course be well insured, so that you can go on the water as soon as the sun starts to shine. So always take out boat insurance for your sloop. This way you know for sure that you are insured in case of damage.
Sloop insurance against theft
When taking out sloop insurance, you have a choice of three different coverages: WA, WA + Limited Comprehensive or All-risk. If you take out a WA boat insurance, it means that you will only be compensated for liability damage. If you cause damage to another person with your boat, the insurer will reimburse you. Damage to or theft of your own sloop will not be covered with third-party sloop insurance. If you want to insure theft of your boat you can take out a WA + Casco boat insurance. With this you are insured for theft of the boat and damage caused by fire, auto-ignition, explosion, joy riding, storm and hail. If you go for Fully Casco you are also insured for damage to your own boat, even if the damage is your fault.
Sloop insurance Amsterdam
Do you prefer to sail your sloop through the beautiful canals of Amsterdam? Then it is often not possible to take out an all-risk boat insurance. Most insurers find the risk of damage to the boat too great and therefore do not take out an all-risk boat insurance. If they do, the premium is often considerably higher. Fortunately, it is usually possible to take out third-party boat insurance if you want to sail your boat in the canals of Amsterdam. If you want to insure theft, burglary or attempted theft in Amsterdam, many insurers require that your boat is moored in a guarded marina. By the way, this also applies to Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.

No, you are not obliged to insure your sloop. In fact, in the Netherlands it is not legally required to take out boat insurance. So you decide for yourself whether you find it necessary to take out boat insurance for your sloop. However, you do need third-party boat insurance in certain situations. If you plan to rent out your sloop, it is important that you inform your boat insurer. This is because not all boat insurers apply the same conditions when renting out a boat. You should check whether your boat is still insured when you rent it out and under what conditions, whether you have to pay extra premium when renting it out, how long the rental period can be and whether you still have to deal with any excess.
