Sailing abroad?

Many European countries have made the purchase of boat insurance (at least third-party) mandatory for boat owners. The boat owner must therefore be able to prove in these countries that the boat is actually insured. In addition, the skipper of the boat often needs an international boat license, even for a boat that does not require a license in the Netherlands. You are also likely to need other documents abroad, such as proof of ownership. For this, you will need an International Certificate of Pleasure Craft (ICP) in most countries.

Boat trailer insurance

The third-party insurance of your boat trailer is always covered under the coverage of the car towing the trailer. Have you taken out at least a WA + Limited Casco boat insurance coverage? Then you can additionally choose to co-insure your boat trailer on the same coverage.

Security boat trailer

Is the boat on a trailer? If so, you obviously secure the boat and trailer securely. The boat itself must also be hitched to the trailer with an approved lock. In addition, the trailer itself must also be secured with an approved wheel clamp or hitch lock. This is also the case if you make a short stop on the way to your destination.

So after you leave the boat in the water, it is also important to secure the trailer. Insurers also find it important that the boat trailer is left in a safe place. The specific guidelines that apply here vary by insurer, and can be found in the relevant policy conditions.
