What is a building?
The building is understood to mean the things that are fixed in and to the house. These parts of your house require demolition or breaking to remove them. Think about the windows, ceilings, doors and walls. Fences, garden gates, hedges and planted trees are also included in the buildings.
Please note:
The dishwasher, a bathroom cabinet or wallpaper, for example, are part of your household contents. See the overview below.
Premium base:
The premium of your building insurance is based on the reinstatement value of your house.
Reinstatement value:
The reinstatement value of your house is especially important for the premium of your building insurance. There is a difference between the reinstatement value and the purchase value of the house. The reinstatement value does not include the value of the plot.
Please note:
Damage caused by calamities such as natural disasters and acts of war (war and armed insurrection) are not covered.
What is included in building/property?
Regularly discussions arise about what should be considered part of the contents and what should be considered part of the building when damage occurs or to determine the insured sum.
Below you will find the overview of the Association of Insurers.
If the building and contents belong to different people, certain parts that are referred to as "building contents" can still fall under "contents" if the following requirements are met:
- The owner of the contents of the building has, at his own expense, improved/applied to the building
- The property owner has taken over an improvement already made by the previous occupant against payment
- And the owner of the farm or its insurer will not pay compensation and/or repair the damage.
