What is the cost of an MOT inspection?
Are you wondering what the cost of an MOT inspection is? There is no simple answer, because there is no fixed price for an MOT inspection. The price varies per garage. Moreover, it also makes a difference whether you have a gasoline or a diesel car. An MOT inspection can also be part of a service or carried out separately. This all affects the cost of an MOT inspection. We explain it to you.
Average cost of MOT inspection
The average cost of an MOT inspection is different for everyone. Prices for a separate MOT inspection range from €19 to about €75. For an MOT inspection for a diesel car you will spend more money than for a petrol car. Some garages also charge extra for the soot measurement, four-gas test or the registration of the car. This is only the price you pay for the inspection itself. If defects are found during the MOT inspection that need to be repaired, there will also be an additional cost. In addition to the MOT costs, you will then also have to deal with repair costs.
Cost of an MOT varies by garage
Each garage charges a different price for an MOT inspection. Garages may decide for themselves what price they charge for an inspection. Because of this, garages compete with each other on price. There are garages that stunt with their prices, so you can get an MOT inspection very cheaply. The MOT inspection may only be carried out by garages that are licensed by the RDW. During this inspection, everything related to the safety of the vehicle is checked. For example, the brakes, lighting, tires and windshield wipers are checked.
If the garage is licensed, you should be able to trust that it will be done properly. However, it does sometimes happen that garages promote low prices for an MOT inspection to bring people in for expensive maintenance or repair work. Therefore, it is always wise to agree that repairs should not be done without consultation.
MOT inspection with service to save costs
You can also combine the MOT inspection with a service. This not only saves you time, but also money. Often an MOT inspection is offered free of charge if you also have a major service performed at the garage. Moreover, your car is then only lost once and is examined more extensively.
