Retrieve claim-free years in Roy Data

When taking out car insurance, an insurer will ask you about your claim-free years. Claim-free years are the years that you have not claimed any damage with your insurer. Damage-free years also affect the amount of the premium, because the more damage-free years you have accumulated, the more premium discount you get. Nowadays, claim-free years are registered in Roy Data. An insurer does this after terminating the insurance. This makes it clear to your new insurer how many claim-free years you have accumulated. You can also request your claim-free years in Roy Data yourself. On Alpina.nl we tell you how to do that.

What is Roy Data?

Roy Data is the central database of Stichting Efficien Processen Schadeverzekeraars(EPS Foundation). When you cancel a car insurance policy, the insurer registers your accumulated claim-free years. When you subsequently take out a new car insurance policy, your new insurer consults the Roy Data database to see how many claim-free years you have. As a result, you no longer have to provide a termination statement when you take out a new car insurance policy.

Why are claim-free years in Roy Data?

In the past, the cancellation statement was used to prove claim-free years. An expulsion statement is a written document you received after your car insurance was terminated. It stated the number of claim-free years you had accumulated with the vehicle. This statement was issued once and you had to show it to your new insurer when taking out a new car insurance policy in order to keep your accumulated claim-free years.

As of September 1, 2007, however, insurers switched to a digital system: Roy Data (Royementsverklaringen-Database). Since then, insurers register the accrued claim-free years here, after termination of the insurance. Losing or not receiving the termination statement is no longer an issue since all data are digitally registered.

How can I retrieve my data?

In Roy Data, each insurer can request your claim-free years. However, you can also do this yourself. You do this via the website of Stichting EPS by means of the inspection right form. Here you fill in your personal details. Then you send the form, together with a copy of your proof of identity, digitally. After sending the form, it may take a while before you receive your claim-free years. In most cases, this takes up to 28 days.

Current claim-free years are not registered in Roy Data and therefore you cannot retrieve them via Stichting EPS. Claim-free years are only registered after termination of an insurance policy. If your car insurance is still running, you can request your claim-free years from your insurer. They are also on the policy document you receive and on the annual statement.
