How do I get access to Roy Data?
If you do not make any claims with your insurer, you build up claim-free years. Every year that you do not make any claims, you climb one step on the bonus malus ladder. The higher you are on the bonus malus ladder, the more premium discount you get and the cheaper your car insurance will be! These claim-free years are registered by the insurer. They do this in Roy Data. Every insurer has access to Roy Data, but you as a policyholder can also request to see your Roy Data data. In this article we explain how you can do that.
What exactly is Roy Data?
In the past, when you terminated an insurance policy, you received a cancellation statement from the insurer. This stated your accumulated claim-free years. When you took out a new car insurance, you could use the cancellation statement to prove your claim-free years. Since 1 September 2007 insurers have switched to a central digital database: Roy Data. Roy Data is managed by Stichting EPS (Efficient Processes Schadeverzekeraars). When you terminate your car insurance, the insurer will put your accumulated claim-free years in Roy Data. When you take out a new car insurance, the new insurer will consult Roy Data. This way they know how many claim-free years you have, so they can grant the right premium discount.
Online access to Roy Data
You can request access to your Roy Data online via the website of Stichting EPS. Bear in mind that the data is not always up to date. Claim-free years are only recorded in Roy Data once your car insurance has been terminated. If you still have a car insurance, the claim-free years you have accrued during that period will not yet be registered. Claim-free years built up while your car insurance is still running can be requested from your insurer. They will also mention them annually on the policy schedule.
You can get access to your Roy Data registration by filling in the inspection right form. You only need to fill in some personal details and add a copy of your identity card. Please keep in mind that it can take a while before you get access. Generally, it takes up to 28 days.
My details are not correct. What should I do?
Does it turn out that your Roy Data data is not correct? You can contact the insurer that has registered the claim-free years. The insurer can then adjust the incorrect claim-free years. There is no point in contacting Stichting EPS to do this. Stichting EPS cannot and may not adjust claim-free years. You should therefore always report incorrect details to the insurer concerned.
