What is an MOT inspection report?
After the MOT you will receive an inspection report. Among other things, it will state whether your car has been approved or rejected, including an overview of the repair or rejection points. In addition, the report may contain advice points. If you have never seen an MOT inspection report, you may wonder what exactly a MOT inspection report is and what it contains. Here you can read all about the MOT inspection report.
MOT inspection report lost what should I do?
Have you lost your MOT inspection report? Then you can request a copy of the test report from your garage or the RDW. If you find out two months or less before the MOT expiration date that you have lost your test report, you do not have to request a new test report. You can have the vehicle MOT tested again immediately. You will keep the original expiration date, increased by 1 or 2 years. If you have your vehicle inspected earlier than those 2 months, the date of approval plus 1 or 2 years will be the new expiration date.
What does the report say?
The MOT inspection report states the result of your MOT inspection. The MOT inspection report is prepared by an MOT inspector. The MOT inspector makes an overview of three categories: repair, advisory and rejection points. On this basis it is determined whether your car is approved or rejected. You will also find the expiration date of the MOT in the inspection report. The car must be re-inspected before the expiration date. After the expiration date, you may no longer drive the car, only on the way to an inspection station. You must then also be able to show that you have an appointment to have the car re-inspected.
What are MOT inspection points?
When performing an MOT inspection, an inspector looks at various MOT inspection points. These are the repair, advisory and rejection points. An important inspection point, for example, is the tires. Damage and tread thickness are examined. Lights, belts and bodywork are also examined.
Reparation points needed?
Repair points are things that need to be repaired before approval can be given. If you have these issues repaired, your car will be APK approved. If you decide to omit the repairs, the MOT inspector will reject the car.
Rejection points what are they?
Rejection points are points on which the car has been rejected. If a car has been rejected, it is no longer suitable for use on public roads. It must then be repaired. Is repairing it useless for you? Then you can sell the car, trade it in or take it to the scrap yard. It is always possible that there is someone else for whom repair makes sense.
Advisory points MOT
Advisory points are items that do not directly lead to MOT rejection, but that you need to replace or repair soon. For example, advisory points about the tires, brakes or belts and airbags. At some point these items wear out and need to be replaced in the future. A MOT inspector can assess this well and give you clear advice on this.
Keep inspection report in the car?
In the Netherlands, it is not mandatory to keep the APK inspection report in the car. In some other countries, however, it is mandatory. Therefore, it is important that you keep the report anyway. So always check whether you need to have your inspection report with you when you take your car on vacation abroad. You can also keep it in your glove compartment. That way you can be sure that you always have it with you.
Is the MOT inspection report online?
When you have your car inspected, you always receive the MOT inspection report on paper. You cannot view the report online. However, by doing a license plate check, you can see online what the expiration date of your MOT is. This can be done on the RDW website. You enter the license plate number of your car. Then you will get insight into the historical data of the car. Because the license plate check is public, it shows only non-privacy-sensitive data about the vehicle. In addition to the MOT expiration date, for example, you can also see how many kilos the vehicle can tow, how many seats it has and when the vehicle was first registered in the Netherlands.
Can you request the MOT inspection report?
If you have lost the MOT inspection report, you can request a copy. This can be done at an RDW inspection station, the RDW customer service desk or at the garage where the vehicle was inspected. You must ensure that you have the original paper vehicle registration certificate or the registration card (the registration certificate in credit card format) with you. You will then immediately receive a copy of the MOT inspection report. A replacement inspection report costs €16.

If you have lost the MOT inspection report, you can request a copy. In most cases, the MOT inspector can send you a copy by PDF to you. If you like to keep the inspection report in your car, you can then print it out.
