What coverage should I take out for a caravan older than....

10 years?

For somewhat older caravans, from about 5 to 15 years old, you can take out caravan insurance with daily value coverage. You are then insured for:

• Damage caused by fire, explosion, lightning, self-ignition, storm and hail
• If the caravan is stolen you will be paid the current market value

You can also co-insure collision damage. However, you must specify this separately when taking out caravan insurance.

20 years?

You are not required to have caravan insurance. If you cause damage to another person with your caravan while towing the caravan with your car, it is covered under your car insurance policy. However, damage to your caravan is not co-insured. For very new or expensive caravans, it is always wise to purchase caravan insurance. If your caravan is older, you can also ask yourself whether you might be able to bear the risk of damage yourself. This is entirely up to you. However, caravan insurance is not very expensive; for a few tens of dollars per month you already have caravan insurance. You may never need caravan insurance, but then you will be insured in case of major damage.
