Where can I transfer a moped?

There are several places where you can transfer a moped, such as a license plate counter, a PostNL location, an RDW inspection station or an RDW counter. During the registration process, the moped's registration number is transferred to the new owner's name. You can also register the moped online. You can do this with the DigiD app. Here you can read all about online registration of a moped.

When you transfer, you will receive a certificate of indemnification. This indemnification certificate is for the seller of the moped. With a release certificate, the seller can prove that the license plate of the sold moped is no longer in his or her name. Therefore, the seller is no longer liable for the obligations of a license plate holder.

What does registering a moped cost?

In 2024, transferring a license plate costs €12.50. You pay this cost on the spot when you transfer the moped.
