We work with several insurers, each of which has its own terms and conditions for different products. There can be considerable differences in these. We want to emphasize that you should always consult the policy, with any clauses and conditions. These are always leading.
How old do I have to be to drive a moped?
You must be at least 16 years old to drive a moped.
Can I take my claim-free years with me?
If you terminate your car insurance, you can transfer the claim-free years, once, to a moped insurance. This will give you extra discount immediately. When you have transferred your claim-free years to another insurance policy, it is not possible to use your claim-free years again afterwards for car insurance.
Do I need a driver's license to drive a moped?
Yes, it is mandatory to have an AM driver's license (moped certificate) if you want to drive a moped or moped. Therefore, being able to present a valid AM driver's license is mandatory when applying for moped insurance (a car or motorcycle license is also sufficient).
How many people are allowed to ride in a moped?
One person may sit next to the driver in the moped. If the passenger is younger than 12 years old and smaller than 1.50 m, they must sit in an approved child seat. It is prohibited to place a child seat behind the seats. You are required to wear a seat belt. If you have a moped without seat belts, you are required to wear a helmet.
What is a moped?
Most of the same rules apply to a moped as to a car. Mopeds are allowed to drive on regular roads, excluding provincial and highways. Outside built-up areas, the moped has a maximum speed of 45 kilometers per hour and inside built-up areas you must adhere to the speed limit. Read more
