Which coverings can I choose for my mobility scooter insurance?
The third-party insurance for your mobility scooter is a minimum requirement. This insures you against damage that you yourself cause to the other party. Damage to your own mobility scooter will not be paid for. Can the damage be recovered from the person who caused the damage? In that case you can try to hold the other party liable. With a WA-coverage, the insurer will not do this for you.
Do you want a more extensive coverage, which also reimburses the costs to your own mobility scooter in case of damage? Then you can opt for an all-risk cover for your mobility scooter. With WA-casco (all-risk) coverage you are also insured for theft, collision (also by your own fault), damage, joyriding or vandalism. In case of damage, for example due to an accident, the insurer will reimburse the repair costs. Even if the damage was caused by the other party. The insurer will then recover the damage from the other party. If your mobility scooter is too badly damaged, you will be paid an amount. This amount depends on the current value of your mobility scooter.
Which cover should I choose?
Now that you know what cover is available for your mobility scooter, you may be wondering which one to choose. The choice of cover depends on your personal situation and wishes. Third-party insurance is often chosen for older mobility scooters with only a small value. This is also the cheapest form of insurance. The costs vary from a few tenners to a little over a hundred euros for a year. Read more about the premium of a mobility scooter insurance here .
However, a mobility scooter with a value of a few thousand euros is not only insured against legal liability. In an accident caused by you, with this coverage, the damage to your mobility scooter is not paid by your insurer. In that case you choose the all-risk coverage.
Is mobility scooter insurance compulsory?
A mobility scooter has no registration number, like a moped or car, but still falls under the Dutch MotorInsurance Liability Act (WAM). This means that you need at least a WA-insurance for your mobility scooter. After taking out your mobility scooter insurance, you will receive an insurance plate that you need to mount on the back of your mobility scooter.
Supplementary insurance policies mobility scooter: recourse legal assistance
When you take out mobility scooter insurance, you can take out additional insurance for legal assistance. With this coverage, in case of an accident, the damage and additional costs of the damage as a result of the accident will be recovered from the other party if they are liable.
