When can I start driving my mobility scooter?
Before you start driving your mobility scooter, there are several things you need to think about first. The first step is to get mobility scooter insurance. Although it does not have a license plate, you are required to have at least third-party insurance. Once you take out the insurance, you will receive an insurance sticker (formerly known as an insurance plate). After taking out insurance, you will receive a license plate sticker from the insurance company. You must attach this to your mobility scooter before you may drive your mobility scooter.

When am I allowed to drive a mobility scooter?
Driving a mobility scooter is not age-related. Both young and old people may drive a mobility scooter. If the mobility scooter goes faster than 10 kilometers per hour, you must be at least 16 years old. Does the vehicle go slower? Then there is no minimum age requirement. No driver's license is required to drive the vehicle.

There are also some rules about the dimensions of the mobility scooter or disabled vehicle. The following dimensions are mandatory:
- Length should not exceed 3.50 meters
- Width maximum 1.10 meters
- Height maximum 2.00 meters

If you drive a mobility scooter, you are subject to the same rules that apply to all road users. You may drive your mobility scooter on the sidewalk, sidewalk, bike path or roadway. Highways and freeways are prohibited for mobility scooters. As of July 1, 2019, the use of your phone, Ipad or navigation system is prohibited while driving your mobility scooter. In doing so, the same rules apply as when appending, calling or listening to music on a bicycle. You risk a €95 fine if the police catch you.
