What do we already know about health insurance changes 2025?
Main changes to health insurance in 2025
Exercise therapy in rheumatoid arthritis:
Starting Jan. 1, 2025, long-term exercise therapy for patients with severe rheumatoid arthritis (chronic joint rheumatism) will be reimbursed from the basic package. Exercise therapy can help reduce symptoms and support better functioning in daily life. This was previously not included in the basic package, but as of next year you no longer need supplementary insurance for this. Just keep in mind the deductible.
Exercise therapy for COPD
For COPD patients, the maximum number of treatments reimbursed from the basic package will expire. This means that depending on the severity of their condition, patients can receive unlimited treatments without additional costs.
Exploratory mental health interview
People with mental health problems will have the option of having an exploratory interview with a mental health care provider and social worker reimbursed from basic insurance starting January 1, 2025. This should help people find the right help more quickly and shorten waiting lists within the GGZ.
Counseling for prenatal screening
This conversation that helps pregnant women choose prenatal screening will no longer be reimbursed from the basic package starting in 2025.
Geriatric rehabilitation care
Conditions for this care will be relaxed, making it easier for frail seniors recovering from surgery, such as hip replacement, to access rehabilitation.
Oral surgery in orthodontics
As of 2025, it is clear that oral surgeons may be involved in orthodontic treatment and diagnostics in cases of severe developmental or growth disorders of teeth, jaw or mouth.
As every year, policyholders have until Dec. 31 to switch to another health insurance policy or pass on an adjustment. If the old policy is cancelled before Jan. 1, new insurance can still be applied for in January.
