Oldtimer events

Do you have a vintage car 15 years old or older whose registration number is suspended? Do you not want to stop the suspension, but do you want to take your oldtimer to an event? Then you can apply for the event scheme. What exactly does this scheme entail and how can you apply for it?

Conditions of event regulation

If you use the event regulation for oldtimers, you can drive your oldtimer for a limited number of days during events recognized by the tax authorities without having to lift the suspension. However, oldtimer insurance is mandatory.

You can take advantage of the event scheme if you meet the conditions below:

  • The event is registered by the organizer with the Tax Office
  • You may participate in up to 4 events per calendar year
  • You may use the event rule for up to 8 days per calendar year
  • Your vintage car must be insured
  • You may only use the vintage car for the event

These are therefore recognized events and festivities that involve the display of vintage cars. Some examples are: commemorations, (flower) parades and club days for owners of old cars. For personal events such as a wedding party, the event regulation does not apply.

Vintage car insurance and events

If you want to drive to a vintage car event during a suspension, you must have valid car insurance for your vintage car. The vintage car does not have to be MOT approved, but it must be MOT-worthy.

Event registration

When the event organizer has announced that you can use the event scheme, register your vintage car in time with the event organizer. During the event, it is not necessary to carry proof of participation in the event scheme.

Is your oldtimer registered with the Tax Office for participation in the event scheme and you decide not to participate? Then the organizer must deregister your oldtimer with the Tax Office at least 1 working day before the event. If this is not done, the event counts in the calculation of the maximum number of events and days per year on which you may use the event scheme.

Register as an organizer

As an event organizer, you must register your event with the Tax Office no later than 2 months before the event. You do this by sending a letter to the address below:

Tax Office/Central Administrative Processes
Team Requests
PO Box 9047
7300 GJ Apeldoorn

The organizer will be notified in writing by the Tax Office whether participants can use the event scheme.

No later than 1 business day before the event, the organizer sends a list of the suspended motor vehicles to the Tax Office with a request to register them for the event regime. The organizer does not receive confirmation of this from the Tax Office.
