Oldtimer events

Do you have an oldtimer of 15 years or older with a suspended licence plate? Do you want to stop the suspension, but do want to take your old-timer to an event? Then you can apply for the event scheme. What exactly does this scheme involve and how can you register for it?

Terms and conditions of the events scheme

If you make use of the events scheme for old-timers, you can drive your old-timer for a limited number of days during events recognised by the tax authorities without having to lift the suspension. However, old-timer insurance is mandatory.

You can make use of the events scheme if you meet the conditions below:

  • The event has been registered by the organiser with the tax authorities
  • You may participate in up to 4 events per calendar year
  • You may use the events scheme for a maximum of 8 days per calendar year
  • Your oldtimer must be insured
  • You may only use the vintage car for the event

These are therefore recognised events and festivities that involve the display of old-timers. Some examples are: commemorations, (flower) parades and club days for owners of old cars. For personal events such as a wedding party, the events regulation does not apply.

Oldtimer insurance and events

If you want to drive to an old-timer event during a suspension, you must have a valid car insurance for your old-timer. The oldtimer does not have to be approved by the police, but it has to be apk-worthy.

Registering for the events scheme

When the organiser of the event has announced that you can make use of the event regulation, you have to register your vintage car in time with the organiser of the event. During the event, it is not necessary to carry a proof of participation in the event regulation.

Has your old-timer been registered with the tax authorities for participation in the events scheme and do you decide not to participate? In that case, the organiser must deregister your old-timer with the Tax and Customs Administration at least 1 working day before the event. If this does not happen, the event will count towards the calculation of the maximum number of events and days per year on which you may make use of the events scheme.

Sign up as an organiser

As the organiser of an event, you must register your event with the tax authorities no later than 2 months before the event. You do this by sending a letter to the address below:

Tax Office/Central Administrative Processes
Team Requests
PO Box 9047
7300 GJ Apeldoorn

The organiser receives a written notice from the Tax Office whether participants can make use of the event regulation.

At the latest 1 working day before the event, the organiser sends a list of the suspended motor vehicles to the Tax Administration with the request to register them for the event regulation. The organiser does not receive a confirmation of this from the tax authorities.
