Accidental occupant insurance

Accidental occupant insurance is a frequently chosen additional coverage to oldtimer insurance. This insurance pays an amount in the event of death or permanent disability of one or more passengers as a result of an accident with the insured classic car. Benefit also follows if it happens to the driver.

Similar to indemnity passenger insurance, this insurance pays a sum in the event of damage to the occupants as a result of one accident with the insured vintage car. It is, however, limited to a death or permanent disability benefit.

Under what conditions is the insured amount paid out?

The payout is independent of the question of fault. Nor does the payout wait until the claim is fully settled. In the event of death, a payment of €5,000 follows. In case of permanent disability, the victim receives €15,000. Here, payment waits until it is determined that it is indeed permanent disability. This can take a long time.

Are you required to insure your passengers?

No, accident passenger insurance is not mandatory. However, if the driver of the vintage car is liable for the damage, the insurer of the vintage car can be held liable. If establishing the driver's liability is unsuccessful, no benefit will follow for the occupants either. In case the other party is liable, they can be sued for the damages. Liability is not considered for the benefit from the accident passenger insurance.

Is accidental occupant insurance recommended?

Casualty passenger insurance offers much broader coverage. In that respect, accidental occupant insurance is not the best choice, but it is the cheaper choice. But the difference in coverage is so great that casualty passenger insurance is especially recommended. This insurance pays the actual damages in the event of disability instead of a €15,000 allowance. Material damage to the belongings of the passengers and the driver can also be claimed on the passenger indemnity insurance.
