How does the oldtimer road tax work? When is a car an old-timer and when do you no longer have to pay road tax for an old-timer? These are questions that we often get. It is important to keep two things apart.

For most insurance companies, a car is an old-timer if it is older than 20 years. In addition, the oldtimer has to be used as a hobby and it has to be your second vehicle. Only then will the company want to insure the vehicle on an oldtimer insurance.

For the road tax, a car is only an old-timer when it is older than 25 years. In that case, you do not have to pay road tax for the old-timer.
