Scooter insurance policy terms and conditions.

No one goes through the policy terms of a scooter insurance policy of their own free will. They are often boring and difficult to read. Nevertheless, they are important, which is why we are happy to explain some of the parts of the policy terms and conditions for you.

Policy conditions of scooter insurance

What is the deductible in scooter insurance?

The deductible is the portion of the damage that is for your own account. Not all insurers apply a deductible. If they do, it is often an amount up to € 150. For a damage of € 1,000, you will receive € 850, assuming a deductible of € 150. Insurers often use a deductible to raise the threshold for claiming damages.

Young drivers often pay a higher premium until they are 24 years old. Insurers do this because, compared to older drivers, they are more likely to incur damage. Some insurers also charge additional deductibles if the damage was incurred by a young driver.

Scooter insurance cancellation

Scooter insurance has a standard term of one year. After the first year of insurance, the insurance is renewed again for one year. After the first year of insurance, however, the insurance can be cancelled daily. Some insurers do use a notice period of one month. This is allowed. When canceling the scooter insurance on April 5, the insurer may then terminate the insurance as of May 5. When selling the scooter, the scooter insurance can be cancelled immediately. This makes sense because there is nothing left to insure. Even during the first year, the insurance can be cancelled when the scooter is sold.

Claims management by the insurer

For damage repair, insurers use damage control. This means that you should preferably have your scooter repaired at a repair shop designated by the insurer. They do damage control by, for example, reducing the deductible if you go to the affiliated repairer.

Driving with alcohol

Insurers are strict about damages where the rider was under the influence of alcohol. The insurer has the right to recover the damage amount from the party causing the damage. In a liability case, the other party is reimbursed for the damage. The insurer may then send the inebriated perpetrator a bill for the damages. These types of recovery claims can involve large sums of money.

Other exclusions

There are other situations named in the policy conditions where there is no coverage. These include participating in speed contests or renting out the scooter. Also, if you are driving without a valid license, the scooter insurance does not provide coverage.

Deposit

In the event of a collision abroad, you may face bail. In extreme cases, the scooter may be confiscated. It is even possible that you yourself may end up in jail. You will then get the scooter back on payment of a deposit. The insurance company will take care of this. Even if bail is needed to get you out of jail again.
