Scooter insurance remains in effect when your son or daughter rides it. If your child is not listed as a driver on the policy, the insurer may charge an increased deductible in case of damage. Depending on the insurer, the deductible in case of damage can then amount to an additional €1000,- on top of the existing deductible. If you list your child as the driver of the scooter, you do not risk this additional deductible.

Furthermore, the company may still adjust the premium if it turns out that your son or daughter is the regular driver of the scooter. In that case, they should be declared as the regular driver.

It's even better to put the insurance in your child's name, so he/she builds up claim-free years on his/her own. This can be attractive when switching to car or motorcycle insurance later.
